How to Sell Quickly and Successfully on Vinted
It's been a little while since I shared some helpful tips on Instagram, and I believe this collection could be beneficial for many of you — especially those of you with nice clothes that aren't being used anymore. Today, I'd love to share some insights on how to get your items sold quickly on Vinted. I hope you find these tips useful, and they might even make a real difference in your selling experience.
Here’s my step-by-step guide:
Rule #1: Avoid Listing Expensive Items
From my two years of experience in successful and not-so-successful sales, I've noticed that higher-priced items often don’t sell as quickly on Vinted, even if they’re significantly marked down. While luxury brands like Chanel might have exceptions, generally speaking, pricier items tend to be more successful on platforms like Vestiaire Collective (though they charge a high commission for sellers). Vinted doesn’t take a seller's commission, but if your item is high-priced, it may not sell fast. For example, a beautiful MaxMara cardigan priced at £500 might sell quickly at £90 if it is in perfect condition, but pricing it at £190-£250 could lead to a longer wait for a buyer.
Rule #2: Great Photos Matter
Taking great photos can really make a difference in how quickly you sell your items. Avoid evening or artificial lighting, which can wash out the item’s appeal. Aim for softer natural lighting that showcases the item’s true colours and textures. Make sure your items are steamed or ironed, and do a little bit of tidying to remove any pilling. A plain white or light-coloured background is ideal. Maintaining a consistent look across your listings is crucial for creating a clean and organised profile that is easy on the eyes.
Rule #3: Use Plenty of Hashtags
While hashtags may not be as impactful on Instagram, they are essential on Vinted. Shoppers often search using various combinations — not just item features but also the style or mood they’re after. For a 1920s-style dress, consider hashtags like “gatsbyattire,” “gatsbypartydress,” or “gatsbystyle.” This helps ensure your listing pops up when someone is looking for that perfect Gatsby-style dress for a party!
Rule #4: List Only Good Quality Items and Be Transparent
Make sure to sell items that are in good condition, and be sure to mention any imperfections if there are any. Clear and honest descriptions significantly affect buyer feedback. While feedback isn't always critical, a few negative comments about unexpected issues can deter potential buyers. Personally, if I see similar negative reviews, I become a bit hesitant — and I imagine others do too.
Rule #5: Time Your Listings with the Seasons
Timing can really help your sales. The start and end of each season are prime times for selling. For instance, the colder season in London begins in early October and wraps up around early May. Listing a coat during early October could be very strategic, especially since stores may not have a full selection at the onset and new arrivals are typically more expensive. At the end of the season, people often seek replacements for worn-out items, making it another great opportunity to sell.
Final Rule: Don’t Sell Anything You Wouldn’t Buy Yourself
Even if it’s a designer piece, if it looks like the blouse of your unstylish neighbour from childhood, it’s likely others won't find it appealing either. It’s still worth listing, but if it doesn’t sell in two or three months, consider donating or recycling it.
These are some key rules I always adhere to, and I’d love to hear any tips you have as well! Feel free to share your thoughts!
